Decanter/Amateur Photographer Picture competition

The winner of the Decanter/Amateur Photographer picture competition is Matt Wilson, for his picture of winemaker Grant Phelps at Viu Manent in Colchagua, Chile.

Wilson (below) lives in Santa Cruz and is married to Andrea Leon, winemaker for Clos Apalta at Casa Lapostolle.

He told decanter.com, ‘I’m originally from Brighton (UK), and studied photography at the International Center of Photography in New York.’

The theme of the competition was ‘Celebration’.

Wilson’s picture (above right), which was taken when he was trying out a new fish-eye lens, was ‘inspired by Ralph Steadman’s illustrations for Hunter S Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas’.

The prize is a Nikon D80 digital SLR with 18-70mm lens.
