A Sancerre producer has formed an alliance with a New Zealand winery to produce a Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc with a French twist.
Pascal Jolivet of Domaine Pascal Jolivet and John Hancock of Trinity Hill will launch their 2008 Hawke’s Bay Sauvignon Blanc in the UK on September 16.
Hawke’s Bay is best-known for its ripe Bordeaux blends and peppery Syrahs rather than its whites thanks to its warm climate but the producers of the 2008 Metis Sauvignon Blanc claim the new wine is ‘in the mould of Sancerre’.
Pascal Jolivet said: ‘We have worked hard to create a wine that has combined the very best of New Zealand and France, and I feel that Metis is a style that will appeal tothose who demand subtlety, complexity and finesse.’
The pair isexpected to release a Pinot Noir under the label in 2012.
