Sting and friends donate Super Tuscans

Sting, Giorgio Armani, and Sarah Ferguson have all donated wines to be auctioned in Florence on 16 May.

The proceeds from the sale of the wines – which are all cult Super Tuscans – will benefit the Florentine May Music Foundation.

Sting, who produces wine at his property in the Aretini zone of Chianti, has donated an imperial (6 litre) bottle of Ornellaia 1995, while Giorgio Armani has donated an imperial of Sassicaia 2000.

Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, an avid admirer of Super Tuscans, is donating a case of mixed vintages of Cervaro della Sala, while Baroness Philippine de Rothschild has sent a jeroboam of Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1992

The Florentine fashion designer Roberto Cavalli has donated a double magnum of Castello di Fonterutoli Siepi 2000 and another designer, Diego Delle Valle, has given a double magnum of Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino 1997.

The organisers of the auction are Italian auction house Pandolfini and Prince Duccio Corsini. Daniela Mugnai, director of marketing for Corisini, told decanter.com, ‘Last year an imperial of Sassicaia 1999 donated by Giorgio Armani auctioned for €4,800. We feel the wines donated to this year’s event will do just as well.’

The auction kicks off the Alla Corte del Vino wine fair, which takes place in Florence on 17-18 May.
