Wine tourism highlighted on TripAdvisor

Wine tourism is getting more and more popular according to global travel website TripAdvisor.

In its recent ‘Top 10 grape getaways where the wine is divine’, www.tripadvisor.com listed the 10 wine destinations that were most often mentioned by the website’s own users.

While most of the destinations were unsurprising – with Bordeaux, Napa and Tuscany in the top five – Marlborough, New Zealand and Chile’s Central Valley also made it onto the list.

‘TripAdvisor users have an incredibly diverse array of interests – including wine,’ said the company’s UK-based spokesperson Amelie Hurst.

‘We have noticed that many travellers frequently share reviews, opinions

and photos of wine destinations and tours in our forums, and the number of people doing so is constantly increasing.’

Hurst said the list is based on comments from TripAdvisor editors and the site’s 25m monthly visitors.

Owned by Expedia, TripAdvisor says its branded sites comprise the largest travel community in the world, with over 6m registered members and 15m reviews and opinions.

The most popular destinations:

1. Bordeaux, France

2. Napa Valley, California

3. Tuscany, Italy

4. Champagne-Ardenne, France

5. Barossa Valley, Australia

6. La Rioja, Spain

7. Sonoma Valley, California

8. Valle Central, Chile

9. Stellenbosch, South Africa

10. Marlborough, New Zealand
