Take part in #grenacheday2016 this Friday (16 September). Decanter.com has rounded up five of our favourites to celebrate the seventh annual Grenache day...

It is international Grenache day on Friday 16th September, and there is plenty to celebrate.

Grenache (or Garnacha) has proven itself to be a diverse workhorse of a variety, adding body and fruit to blends as well as offering juicy fruits and chunky texture as a single varietal.

It can be found in the simplest table wines through to superstars such as Château Rayas in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and can also be referred to as Garnacha, Cannonau, Alicante and Garnaxta depending upon where in the world you are.

Grenache day wines to try

Although international Grenache day focuses on the red variety, there is also a white version that is gaining in popularity as a single varietal, while it has been a staple in southern French blends for many years. We have included a white Grenache here as it is something we recommend trying, especially if you have never come across this variety before.
