Made from Sicily's popular red grape, Nero d'Avola, the appassimento process enhances the flavours and textures of the wine to create a supercharged style. Fragrant dried cherry and violet aromas lead into an intense, ripe palate bursting with porty, plummy flavours, red fruits and vanilla. There's some astringency from the wood as well as the tannins, but this is still all about the fruit. It needs some rich food to stand up to its intensity.
