Tenuta Pule, Amarone della Valpolicella, Classico, 2011

Amarone is full-bodied and rich thanks to the use of dried grapes. They are generally very expensive due to the extended ageing requirements and careful grape selection due to the risk of rot, so this example represents impressive value. Intense flavours of macerated cherry fruit with hints of dried herbs, alongside cocoa-dusted tannins and high acidity make for a delicious red equally at home with winter casseroles or summer barbecues.
