Zalze, Fairtrade Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2015

Made by Alastair Rimmer, who joined Zalze as cellar master in 2014, this is a very South African-styled Cabernet. It is showing ripe dark berries, the herbal lift of fynbos (the garrigue of the Cape), and light toasty notes from the 12 months spent in French oak. It's simple and straightforward, but well made and packs a punch of upfront, fresh fruit that calls for a barbecue.
