On paper it looked like a dream tasting: the much-hyped 2009 vintage and good value-wines from the named Cotes du Rhone-Villages. In reality it was a little lacklustre, however six wines triumphed for the Decanter judges including one five-star and five four-star wines. See them here...

, I think the problem with uosiers wine criticism is that it isn't uosiers. If you read the great dance, music, art, literary and movie critics you find them often spending considerably words on a single book, collection of songs, single piece of art or performance. There is often a significant depth to these reviews that not only critique the the work, but put it in historic and contemporary context, considers its social and political implications and its message and makes learned suggestions for how it might improved. You don't see this kind of review for or critique of a single wine. This kind of review is worthy of review itself because it has to strive for originality of thought and comprehensiveness and significance. Where is the 2000 word review of a Napa Cab or NV Rutherglen Muscat or a 2000 Bordeaux? What is the meaning of the 2001 Spottswoode? To me, this is where wine reviewing has never ventured.Look forward to the tease fulfilled.Cheers,Tom .
