Mendel, Unus 2008

Roberto de la Mota created Mendel after leaving Terrazas de los Andes. At 950m in the Major Drummond district of Luján de Cuyo, the small winery is surrounded by olive trees and an old, stony, well-drained vineyard planted in 1928. De La Mota uses the Malbec from this vineyard as well as from Perdriel and Altamira in the Uco Valley and blends it with Cabernet Sauvignon to produce the Mendel Unus, which comprises 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a wine of fleshy yet intense character, mulberry and dark cherry fruit concentration. 18.5pts/20
