Nosiola

Found only in Trentino, production was recently declining due to growing difficulties. Wonderful and crisp, with green apple, floral notes and the intense hazelnut aromas/flavours that explain its name (nocciola is hazelnut in English.)

Try: Cesconi, Vigneti delle Dolomiti, Trentino-Alto Adige 2009

Hazelnut, white fruit and fresh herbs, for a fuller bodied version of Nosiola than most. Made from 50- to 100-year-old vines from one of Trentino’s best producers. 16.5pts/20
Price: £15.25–£16.99 Liberty Wines, Slurp, Swig
Drink: 2012–2013
Alc: 13.5%
