Best-value Bordeaux of 2012
Of the 435 Bordeaux wines submitted for Decanter panel tastings over the past year, 129 were rated 'Highly Recommended' or 'Outstanding'. The 25 best-value wines were drawn from the ones priced below the average price point of their tasting. For this table we combined the percentage by which they undercut this average price with the wine's score to come up with the final marking. (NB: The Medoc first growths were removed from this calculation as their exceptionally high prices skewed the results.)

The 2002 vintage is prominent in this revue and at ten years in a mediocre vintage needs to be taken with caution. The price ranges quoted are much too wide; I would have thought that it should now all be drunk. Is this yet another sign that Bordeaux and merchants are awash with claret it just cannot shift; prices need to come down even further if stock-holders wish to move it on, especially of vintages such as 2002. Hardly worth the risk.
