Following the exalted 2009 Burgundy vintage, no one really expected the 2010 releases to fare as well. But our panel found plenty of high-quality village wines and premiers crus. See the top Vosne-Romanée 2010 results here...

The Rion properties have been through turbulent times since Patrice Rion left the home base in Nuits-St-Georges in 2000 to establish his own domaine with wife Michèle. Today, his three siblings run the Daniel Rion estate, and after a dull patch there has been a distinct improvement in the quality of recent vintages. The Beaux Monts, which showed well earlier this year, has gathered more texture and intensity with bottle age – the tannins are particularly fine. Currently it shows even better than the 2009.
Stephen Brook: ‘Ripe, oaky nose, raspberries and cranberries. Sleek, intense, elegant, tight and concentrated. Firm tannins underlie the fruit but are not tough or extracted. This has purity and complexity and a fine texture. Very long.’
Anthony Hanson MW: ‘Bright, attractive, open, clean, complex and fresh; rich wine, wellrounded, beautiful fruit concentration, fresh yet soft, long finish.’
Jasper Morris MW: 'Classy bouquet. It is quite tightly wound, with the oak restraining the fruit, though this will come right in time. The potential is there, thanks to the impressive intensity of dark fruit. The svelte finish is very impressive.’
