Vosne-Romanée 2010: panel tasting results
Domaine Jacques Cacheux et Fils, La Croix Rameau 1er Cru
Decanter average score: 18.5pts/20 (95/100pts)
Individual judge’s scores: SB 18.5 AH 18.5 JM 18.5
This seven-hectare estate owns parcels in prestigious Vosne sites such as Suchots and Echezeaux, but La Croix Rameau is far less well known, largely because it is restricted to 0.6ha tucked into a corner of the grand cru Romanée-St-Vivant. Cacheux shares the site with two other growers. Patrice Cacheux generally ages his wines in new oak, and bottles them without fining or filtration. Although lavishly fruity and sumptuous, the wine had sufficient balancing acidity to give it succulence and length.
Stephen Brook: ‘Lavish cherry fruit on the nose, sumptuous and fleshy. Rich, super-ripe, intense, fine acidity, taut – a racy style despite the evident ripeness. The fruit is splendid, the oak well handled and the finish lifted. Delicious.’
Anthony Hanson MW: ‘Fragrant fruit, spicy and fresh; has powerful structure. Rich, succulent, intense fruit, fresh aftertaste’.
Jasper Morris MW: ‘Attractive mid-purple with a sensual, stylish, red fruit nose showing ripe fruit. A pleasing density, some nobility of fruit, a deft touch of oak on the palate and good length. Succulent, with lovely fragrance at the finish.’
