Producer Description

Giovanni Negro’s Roero estate is one of the appellation’s leaders. While half of the 50-odd ha are planted to Arneis, it is the Barbera and Nebbiolo that have really forged a reputation for this family. The top wine, Sudisfà, is deep and powerful with ripe, smooth tannins but there is good quality throughout the reds. Good examples of Arneis are also produced, a fresh slightly spicy regular version contrasts with fuller more characterful single-vineyard Gianat and Perdaudin examples. A small amount of grapes for the latter are dried for a sweet version. In addition to those below, Birbet (Brachetto), and Favorita are also made. Bric Millon is a promising new red based on Croatina but includes some Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. Information supplied by Wine Behind the Label
