Producer Description

The Tenuta San Filippo includes 14ha of vineyards in the south-east corner of the Montalcino zone. Owner Filippo Fanti completed three terms as president of the Brunello consorzio and, with the assistance of enologist Stefano Chioccioli, ensured that his own wines are up there amongst the best. The depth, drive and structureare most impressive. Deep colour and an oak influence are characteristic but there is also good balance and harmony between fruit and oak. There’s also the promise of marvellous complexity and texture with 10 years’ age or more. Rosso di Montalcino is good too but in an internationally- styled Sant’Antimo Rosso (barrique-aged Sangiovese) the Sangiovese character has been somewhat snuffed out. Vin Santo is also made.
