Pertimali/Livio Sassetti, Tuscany, Italy
Producer Information
- Wine region: Tuscany
Producer Description
Pertimali is a 9-ha estate producing slightly old-fashioned Brunello of great richness and depth within a sturdy frame. A meaty Rosso di Montalcino too can be full, ripe and savoury with a little age, showing the true character of Sangiovese in this zone. Vigna dei Fili di Seta, a blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, is the only wine likely to have seen any small wood and is more modern, with rich, dense fruit to the fore. However, a note of caution, particularly for the Brunello – despite some really fine examples (for which the 329 Tuscany rating is given) such as the 1995 or 97, quality can be uneven with sometimes questionable balance and stability: an otherwise very promising 99 is slightly high-toned. Much the same can be said of the 01 which oozes character and flavour. Individual vintages should be tasted before buying by the case (the 98 is showing more composure with age but 96 is best avoided). A very small amount of Riserva is also made and can be superb as in 97. Information supplied by Wine Behind the Label
