Producer Description

Michele Satta isn’t one of Bolgheri’s big names but makes some good wines from 30ha of vineyards. Piastraia is the top wine, a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. It doesn’t lack for extract or depth but sometimes wants for more refined tannins. Nonetheless it is usually full, complex and characterful. Cavaliere (previously Vigna al Cavaliere) is unusual in the zone in being pure Sangiovese and, if again characterful, it can be more angular than Piastraia. Whites have always been important: Costa di Guilia, from Vermentino and Sauvignon, is aromatic and attractive if no more; Giovin Re, a varietal Viognier, is very ripe and oak-influenced but lacks the structure and definition of good Condrieu. Basic Bolgheri Rosato and Bianco are also produced. Information supplied by Wine Behind the Label
