Very dark Pauillac fruit. Lovely centre and balance. Very stylish and disarmingly powerful. Very fine. Drink 2010-12.

(Blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot. The Grand Vin represents 43% of the total crop.) Dense and rich colour, lovely fragrant nose of cassis and violets, beautifully extracted fruit, a very polished wine that will gain density in barrel. Technical director Charles Chevallier described 2001 as 'a great vintage, less opulent than 2000, but with more precise definition.'
