more Bordeaux than California
low yields result in high standards

For some time, my favourite Napa Valley Cabernet-based wine has been the elegant Cain Five. This year, however, my choice goes to Viader 1998, a superb blend of 63% Cabe
A knock-out, but not in the sense of an overweight California Cabernet, more that it tastes like a blend of Châteaux Rauzan-Ségla and Angelus, but with a totally Napa character. There is a Pichon-Comtesse smoothness about it as well.
