International Trophy White Blend: Streicker, Jade Series Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon, Margaret River, Australia 2014

Spirited on the nose and showing perfect typicity of the Sauvignon and Semillon grapes, this is a fresh, grassy affair, showing rich guava and gooseberry notes against a lovely herbaceous backdrop. Dry and simple, with plenty of invigorating energy throughout.

Streicker, Jade Series Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon, Margaret River, Western Australia, Australia 2014

Despite its relative youth, Margaret River is a groundbreaking region and although it produces just 3% of Australia’s total volume it accounts for 25% of the country’s premium wines.

A consistent microclimate similar to that of Bordeaux makes this a winemaking paradise. It is therefore no surprise that Streicker Jade’s blend of Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon has been awarded an international trophy.

New Yorker, John Streicker, owner of Clairault/Streicker, fell in love with the Margaret River after an impromptu visit in 2001. In 2002 he acquired the Yallingup Protea Farm and continued to invest in the area, purchasing Ironstone, Bridgeland and, finally, the Clairault vineyards in 2012, thus creating Clairault | Streicker.

Clairault has been at the forefront of this region’s winemaking since 1976 and over the years has seen a solid programme of expansion and improvement thanks to visionary owners. John Streicker’s winemaker, Bruce Dukes’ aim for this latest stage in Clairault’s life is to bring the most out of the vine’s natural gifts with minimal intervention; a philosophy which has led to wines of unmistakable quality, winning awards at home and abroad.

The Streicker Jade wines are accessible, consistent and immensely enjoyable. They are designed to drink well young but will reward careful cellaring (the first vintage was 2011). Grapes are sourced from the Bridgeland vineyard, which produces fruit of exceptional quality. This is left in the impressively capable hands of Bruce Dukes who has twenty years’ industry experience shared between the Margaret River and iconic producers in the Napa Valley. His approach is a holistic one, striving to use best practices, which are environmentally sustainable.

3000 cases of the Streicker Jade Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon are produced and in total Clairault | Streicker tallies 14,500 cases, driven by a desire to “create the best wines humanly possible”.
