Gordon Ramsay to head up Bordeaux restaurant

Gordon Ramsay has signed a partnership agreement with the owner of Bordeaux’s Grand Hotel de Bordeaux & Spa to head up the Le Pressoir d’Argent restaurant – only his second restaurant in France.

The announcement, made this week, will mean another big name chef to inject life into Bordeaux’s restaurant scene, following Joel Robuchon’s recent partnership with Bernard Magrez at La Grande Maison.

Ramsay once worked for Robuchon in Paris and in his autobiography compared the experience to working for the British SAS military unit.

It is the second restaurant that Ramsay will operate with the Groupe FIB (Financiere Immobiliere Bordelaise), with the Kitchen Nightmares chef also running the main restaurant at the Waldforf Astoria Trianon Palace in Versailles.

‘I am thrilled to open a restaurant in the heart of the most famous vineyard region in the world’, Ramsay said when announcing the news, ‘but also to work with the abundant local ingredients of the Aquitaine region’.

A spokesperson for the hotel confirmed to decanter.com that Ramsay is currently working with their team on a new wine list for the restaurant when it reopens – although the exact date for the opening not yet been announced.

The Gordon Ramsay Group has 25 restaurants globally, including Plane Food at Heathrow’s Terminal Five and Bread Street Kitchen in Hong Kong, together with his eponymous restaurant in Chelsea, which has maintained three Michelin stars for the past 12 years.
