Serradenari is located in the highest part of the La Morra production zone and is quite a new estate – 10 years ago the main building hadn’t yet been finished. Back then the wines showed promise and here in this gerat wine we see further proof of the characteristic La Morra delicacy and refinement. Owned by the Diatto-Negri family since the late 19th century and run today by Giovanni Negri, all Serradenari wines are competently made and inexpensive. This Barolo is born from vines growing between 470m and 530m above sea level and is proclaimed to be the ‘world’s highest Barolo’.
Paolo Basso Intense nose of roses, violet, sweet spices and walnuts. Rich, savoury, expressive character with well-integrated, ripe tannins.
Ian D’Agata Sweet red cherry, candied violets and mint. A dense but easy-going Barolo with plenty of early appeal; lovely.
Michael Garner Ripe, spicy and smoky with good fruit aromas. Fresh and juicy with aniseed-toned fruit flavours and aromas. Firm structurally but certainly has the potential to improve even further.
