Peter Michael Winery, Les Pavots Estate Blend 2007
Notes of black cherry, cassis, mocha, black truffle and subtle top-notes of grilled meats and espresso. The dense, powerful palate has considerable amplitude and tannic richness, enrobed in a deep core of ripe fruit. This does a good job of integrating its power and alcohol, and while considerably larger-scaled, it does nod to Bordeaux in its savoury complexity – in particular modern vintages of Léoville-Poyferré crafted by Didier Cuvellier.
