Charles Heidsieck, Rosé Réserve NV
Founded in 1851 by the Champagne Charlie of legend, he sailed to the USA to seek his fortune. Jailed during the civil war he returned home chastened but did find markets in the Americas. The house’s eminence owes all to three great winemakers – Daniel Thibault and Thierry Roset who both died young, and now Cyril Brun. Rosé Réserve symbolises Charles Heidsieck’s magic, opulence and finesse. Made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, with 20% reserve wine.
Twinkling salmon lights in the glass. Intriguing citrus aromas pour out, backed up by toasty, honeyed tones. The Pinot Noir character really shows through in a rich, opulent style. This rosé Champagne would be delicious with seafood.
Onion skin colour in the glass with an alluring nose of citrus and hints of honeyed autolysis. The palate is equally appealing; a whisper of savoury decadence garlanding the finish.
Simon Field MW
A delicate rosé Champagne with dark fruit elements and hints of black pepper. This is complex and classy, and shows evidence of very skilful winemaking.
