Vega Sicilia, Valbuena 5 2012
The 2012 Valbuena is a stripling, but is already showing real charm. This is a particularly interesting vintage, as the Merlot which usually forms part of the blend is absent due to crop failure. Despite this, there’s nothing missing, not even for the most exacting of Vega enthusiasts. Aromatically, the wine is very elegant with violets and roses overlaying the red fruit and notes of cedar.
The palate is long and pure, lifted by well balanced acidity. The tannins are still young and firm and naturally need more time. The finish is very long, with a mocha richness. 100% Tinto Fino. Aged for five years in new and used French and American barrels and 20,000 litre vats.
