Diemersdal, Gruner Veltliner 2016
You tend to think Austria rather than South Africa when you hear the words ‘Gruner Veltliner’ – it is Austria’s most widely planted grape variety after all. But this fresh example from Durbanville is more than up for the challenge. A nose of freshly picked nettles and citrus fruits is accompanied by subtle but precise white pepper notes. The palate is full of juicy lime, gooseberry and elderflower flavours, with a tense acidity running through the middle. Crisp and refreshing.
