Domaine Jacques Prieur

Michael Schuster

Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Dense combination of ripe fruit and new wood; rich and ripe in fruit behind a chewy tannin texture – matter and complexity a bit dominated by its new wood tannin texture for the moment; good wine but over-oaked, good fruit length, but not sure whether this will absorb its tannin in the long term., Clear 1er Cru scope and complexity, just wish there wasn’t so much new wood tannin ‘gripping’ this fine quality fruit. Excellent quality though needs time.

Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Very deep young red, purple rim. Concentrated, black cherry and black berry fruits nose, rich and robust on the palate, broad black fruits, quite exotic and rich in this vintage. Oak still present and will soon blend in, a fine, strikingly seductive Volnay with a good future.

Sebastian Thomas

Tasting: Volnay 1er Cru 2010

Good depth of colour. Lovely scented strawberry fruit; dense ripe and well-balanced with sweet ripe fruit on palate, backed by quite present medium tannins that drive to a long, fruity finish. Lovely texture and density.
