Mike Ritchie

Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Fleshy, savoury and bottle-derived changes dominate the aroma, suppressing the fruit that remains. Still a core of black fruit evident on the palate, but fading in the face of the onset of savouriness and maturity.

Pedro Ballesteros

Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Intense, meaty, earthy, sweaty, rustic. Lovely structure, sound and open, with fresh tannins and low but enjoyable acidity. Open finish, long. The wine is singing its origin. Very nice.

Sarah Jane Evans

Tasting: Bierzo Mencia

Subtle blend of typically meaty aromas with cigar box and redcurrant fruit. Rich, cooked palate, which needs some counterpoint of freshness. Savoury leathery notes, full bodied, with warm alcohol on finish.
