Decanter tastings director Christelle Guibert attends Lea & Sandeman's Autumn Tasting of over 100 wines. Here's her pick of the best.
The Lea & Sandeman Autumn Tasting
A record number of winemakers were welcomed by Lea & Sandman for their Autumn Tasting, which featured over 100 wines from 15 worldwide producers.
New vintages from well known favourites such as Domaine Delaporte, Salomon (Austria and Australia), Cantine Dei, Sottimano and Fattoria di Magliano were shown. New wines from Domaine des Trinities, Haskell Vineyards and Nittnaus were complemented by staples from their entire ranges.
Many people made a special effort to attend, as harvest begins in their vineyards. Matheiu Delaporte caught the evening Eurostar in order to direct his team of 80 pickers in Sancerre the following morning.
Charles Lea said, ‘It was the best general tasting event L&S has put on, and so a big thanks to the whole L&S team, the producers who came from far afield and to the customers who came to meet them.’
The focus at Lea & Sandeman has always been on small wine producers that make unique and individual wines; frequently purchasing from the grower. These producers often have difficulty in getting their product to market as they cannot keep up with the demand of large retailers.
