In 1925, Rutini became the first winery to plant vines in the now-renowned Argentinian wine region of Tupungato. Today it owns 370ha there, including the plots from where this Chardonnay originates, planted at around 1,000m above sea level. It's a lovely expression, combining cool-climate restraint with new world tropical fruit and roundness. The wine undergoes 50% malolactic fermentation, and is aged for nine months in new French oak barrels. Quite pale in colour, the nose is relatively restrained, with tight buttery notes. On the palate there's a streak of minerality underpinning the mélange of tropical fruit, honey and vanilla. Generosity and class.
