Domaine Jean Fournier, Clos du Roy, Marsannay, 2013

A third discovery from this exciting appellation. The domaine is not new but Jean’s son, Laurent, took over the winemaking in 2003 and is bringing a new dynamism to the wines. Marsannay has no crus (yet – watch this space), but if it had, Clos du Roy would be one (see no17 as well). This has a beautiful, lifted Pinot Noir aroma, with dark cherry fruit on nose and palate. Very harmonious with silky tannins and a great energy. Fabulous wine.
