Quinta Nova, LBV, Port, Douro Valley, Portugal, 2012

This winery takes its name from the patron saint of the chapel on its property - in fact the full name, Quinta Nova de Nosso Senhora do Carmo, is more of a mouthful than even this bountiful LBV. Macerated black cherry aromas lead into a full bodied, dense palate of liquid raisin and date, with black fruit, sweet spices and a lovely undulating texture. The fine tannins are evident but well integrated into the long finish. The alcohol is carried well.
