Bodegas Muriel, Espartero Gran Reserva, Rioja, 2008

90
Tasted by: James Button
This Gran Reserva, aged for 24 months in American oak barrels then 36 months in bottle, is made from vines with an average age of 30 years. Ripe, sticky tannins frame the baked red fruit and juicy plum components. There is also exotic spice, liquorice and a fragrant woody note, giving this wine a degree of complexity and involvement. Drink with roast lamb or tapas.
