Shining a light on Eden Valley Shiraz character, this single-site wine, from the Fechner Vineyard in Moculta, makes a bold purple fruit statement. It has an intense sweet opening, showing exaggerated mulberry and lolly wine gums, but then pulls back into a more sensible mid-palate embrace of dark plum over blackberry, with a lick of dark chocolate. It will be interesting to see whether this split personality becomes more cohesive over time in the cellar.
