All hail the modern! Jason Schwarz is leading a convincing argument for new Barossa style with his Meta Shiraz, containing fruit sourced from four Barossa sub-regions. Its lean structure is competently harnessed in a sprightly yet substantial wine. Its arresting opening is keened by 7% whole bunch in the ferments and wild yeast. Rich purple swirls in the glass, as purple fruit aromas race up the nose and luscious primary fruits arrest the palate from the outset. However, this is no simplistic fruit bomb; the pull of lean black fruit tapers the mid-palate and then draws out with the aid of gentle mineral-framed tannins to an elegant final bow. The cooler, longer 2023 vintage has allowed this style to shine at its best.
