Strong canopies shaded grapes from February’s extreme heat, hence the vibrant core of raspberry, blueberry and blackberry fruit, with meaty, peppery undertones, perfumed violets, dark chocolate and cedar. With a firm backbone of acidity and textured, tapering tannins, the alcohol (15%) remains balanced. Harvest was completed on 20 April. In 2004, Dan Buckle became chief winemaker and a precision viticultural project began to individuate Old Block parcels.
