Cape Mentelle, Marri Cabernet Sauvignon, Western Australia 2023

This new range from top producer Cape Mentelle is named after Australia's native marri trees. Elegant aromas are classically Cabernet with cassis, mint, blackcurrant leaf and chocolate, plus ripe red cherries. With only a small proportion matured in oak, this is rich and smooth, with fresh, ripe black and red berries, dusted in cocoa powder and framed by supple, ripe tannins. Lingering finish, crisp and spicy – plenty of pairing potential from beef with Chinese five spice to roasted field mushrooms. Good value for money too.
