From 2014 Mathias Hirtzberger, whose elder brother was set to inherit the family property in Spitz, began to produce his own wines, having purchased parcels of vines from growers. With its rich, broad, apricot nose, this mirrors Franz Hirtzberger's more opulent style. Yet the palate is leaner, crisper, and more precise than the nose suggests, but there's still generous fruit here with sufficient if not exceptional acidity. A harmonious wine with moderate persistence.
