The aromas of this substantial wine are restrained at first, but with time a ripe plum and blackberry fruit develops with notes of earth, smoke, and leather. The texture is slightly forbidding, with firm tannins and plenty of acidity, but one imagines that it should show quite well with time. The grapes come from an east-facing site below the woods of Montaigu in the southern portion of the appellation. They are destemmed before fermentation and ageing in cask (half new), which should last 15 months.
