Egly-Ouriet's blanc de noirs is first and foremost a great Pinot Noir. From a parcel called Les Crayères planted in 1946 in Ambonnay, its low-yielding vines turn out a wine, in these hands, of imposing complexity. It's showing dried apple, cocoa, set honey and bitter orange, over which fresher, sweeter notions of blueberry and cinnamon keep everything immediately gratifying. Explosively flavoursome and long, yet far from tough or extracted, it's a wine to bask in for many years to come.
