A strict plot selection combining 90% Syrah (mostly Petite Syrah) with 10% massale selection Viognier. Given the hot vintage, almost half the wine was aged in amphorae for the first time with the other half in 600L demi muids for 12 months followed by six months in vat before being bottled. Meaty notes with freshly picked and baked strawberries - sweet spices and floral rose and violet aromas on the nose too. Juicy and lively, clean and fun, I love the energy and purity of this, very easy to drink with dried herbs, minerality and wood on show in the liquorice, pencil lead, crayon and tobacco touches. Generous and persistent, more vertically layered than horizontally, this delivers a really nuanced glass of wine with punchy red berry fruit, mouthwatering acidity and earthy minerality on the finish. Enjoyable and well made with chalky tannins on the finish. Enjoy with beef steak or game dishes. The labels for this cuvée change every year and are selected from contemporary works at a gallery in Brussels. In 2020 the label is a painting by the Belgian artist Benoît Platéus.
