Inky black and solid in colour, with deep brooding aromas that hint at plummy depths, smoky embers, and stewing meat, suggesting the palate is going to be rich and concentrated. Yet it's unexpectedly fleet-footed, with good poise and brightness, and very fine silky tannins. There's some vanilla and toasty touches, and a hint of youthful blueberry fruit, but the focus is on lift, red fruit, and elegance. It's really refined in texture, not oppressive and not over mature. The fruit is at perfect ripeness, in fact, and there are no jammy notes. It leans into crispy fruit and citrussy acidity. There's a fuzzy textural sensation, a density and amplitude from the fine tannins. And an animal side to it, something more meaty with dried herbs and wild garrigue flowers. It's got lovely raspberry-ish acidity that flows through the finish. A huge achievement.
