Château Gaudrelle long belonged to the Monmousseau family, who founded the sparkling wine company in Montrichard. Alexandre Monmousseau was the last member of the family to run the 22-hectare estate whose vineyards are either on flint or on the best limestone sites that overlook the Loire. At the end of 2019 Alexandre retired to pursue new opportunities with his business partner – Eric Pasquier – taking over. The young, light gold 2020 has apple and honeyed aromas with delicately attractive sweet quince and peach flavours and a good length. A versatile wine that can be serve as an apéro or with patés, cheese (esp blue), but also with dishes like pheasant cooked in apple and cream – and why not Peking Duck!
