Château Beauchêne, Premier Terroir, Côtes du Rhône, 2016
(at En primeur tastings, Rhône, 08 Oct 2017)
Drinking Window: 2019 - 2022
From 30 to 100 year old vines. Well-judged oak here sits just behind the fruit, with lifted violet and juniper notes. It's full-bodied, generous and concentrated in style, ambitious and remarkably intense for a Côtes-du-Rhône. Slightly raised alcohol perhaps, but it's a minor niggle - this is certainly attention grabbing and will be good when it's ready.
