St Jean du Barroux, La Source, Ventoux, Rhône, France, 2016

Hand-picked and destemmed fruit, no new oak involved. Still showing reductive notes on the nose, but there’s blueberry fruit and liquorice too. Very tight tannins, high acidity, only medium-bodied. It has energy, tension and a tightly wound core. A straight style that’s for dedicated wine lovers rather than a crowd-pleasing party wine. Just starting to open up now – it would benefit from another year in bottle.
