Ex-rugby player Gérard Bertrand has been very successful at making affordable, well-made and approachable wines from the South of France. This new listing at Tesco is a great introduction to orange wine, where white grapes are given skin contact to add a tannic structure more akin to red wine. The blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne with a little Grenache Blanc and Muscat is tangerine-scented, with an orange marmalade zestiness and a lightly grippy finish. If you want a more pronounced orange wine character, seek out Bonny Doon's excellent (albeit more pricey) Le Cigare Orange, also at Tesco.
