An expressive and desne nose filled with dark chocolate, black cherries, blackcurrants, wild herbs and hints of sweet tobacco. Rich and nuanced. The texture is smooth and silky but weighty too, filling the mouth with succulent, juicy, almost sweet, ripe cherry and blackcurrant flavours given definition by a spiced backbone that starts off as black pepper and ends on a gorgeous minty fresh finish. The juiciness comes from Merlot with dark fruit from the Tannat and Fer Servadou, a rustic red grape variety commonly found as a blending component in the wines of southwest France. This feels well balanced, and while definitely a full-bodied wine, has a lovely sweet, ripe finesse to it that makes it oh so drinkable. A top buy and one that will continue to age.
