The Carmel winery was founded by Baron Edmund de Rothschild in 1882. This flagship wine of the estate features an unusual Bordeaux lend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Petit Verdot and smaller portions of Malbec and a touch of Cabernet Franc. It has been aged for 16 months in French oak. It has a savoury, reductive attack, which opens up to a blossom of blackberry, prunes and smokiness. It's sweet and spicy on the palate with peppered ripe black cherry, bitter chocolate, and liquorice flavours. Well-structured tannins are its backbone, followed by a savoury, salivating finish.
