The Scavino family made all four of its MGA bottlings in 2022. To preserve freshness, they shortened maceration times and reduced fermentation temperatures by a couple of degrees. While each expresses its distinct personality, the San Rocco demonstrates the most richness of texture. With scents of blackcurrant, lavender, liquorice and lilac, this almost smells juicy – not quite lush, but fleshy enough to sink into. Riding in unison, steely tannins are securely fastened. There's more volume than depth, but it's still tasty as citrus peel and bitter herbs draw out on the finish. Rather approachable, though another year in bottle wouldn’t hurt.
